The Christ Church Fairfax facility relocation provides a larger land opportunity for the expansion of an ever-growing congregation. Compared to the current parcel of land within a residential community, the new location is on a primary traffic artery in Fairfax County with space to accommodate the growing congregation.
HH provided a master plan incorporating a new worship center, new multipurpose spaces, expanded education and administration spaces. The Phase I construction included a new Multipurpose room that will serve as the primary Worship Facility, new offices, new children’s areas and worship space, new youth classrooms and worship space. The site development was also paired with the needs of the Phase I facility with future expansion and parking planned.
The new Multipurpose Worship Facility has seating capacity for 1000 seats and includes a state-of-the-art Audio-Visual and Lighting system for multi-media options used during Worship. Alongside, a full-service kitchen will provide for church dinners and outreach opportunities to the community. Uniting the Multipurpose facility and the education wing includes a large, Circulation/Gathering space that will provide the east terminus point for a central circulation spine between Phase I and future phases. Across the Circulation/Gathering spine, the education facility includes the children’s areas on the lower level and the youth areas on the upper level.
The exterior of the building was designed to take the facility into the future with a contemporary image that includes masonry and stucco (EIFS) along with exposed structural steel members. The structural steel expression carries through the Circulation/Gathering space and will carry on into future phases as the facility expands to the west. The overall facility was designed with flexibility and expansion in mind. This will allow the congregation to re-purpose rooms for future needs and allow the facility to serve the congregation’s for generations to come.
