CHALLENGE

Provide a campus masterplan that would provide a new youth and children’s facility along with their existing campus buildings. The new additions needed to provide separate venues for both the Children’s Worship and Youth Worship along with separate facilities for classrooms, Administration, Sports and age appropriate café/coffee areas. The new buildings could either be connected or detached.

SOLUTION

The solution was to provide separated buildings for each age group that would be age-appropriate in design and style. In order to allow the specific age groups to ‘feel as though the building was designed for them’, each building presents it’s own style distinct and separate from each other and from the main Worship Center building.

IMPACT

The designs developed and buildings constructed provide an impact on campus that is seen from off campus with identifiable different design styles. Both the Children and Youth Buildings serve the specific age groups as desired while providing a ‘place of their own’ feel for each group.

DESIGN OBJECTIVES

Both the Youth and Children’s facilities have should exhibit, not only on the exterior, but the interior, distinctly different, but age-appropriate facilities.

  • Children – per the Children’s pastor – should feel like “the happiest place on earth” and that they should ‘run to worship’ in the new facilities. The pastor asked that the building feel “Disney-like”.
  • Youth – per the Youth pastor – should feel like a more grown-up place that they can call their own. A “House of Blues” feel to the facility was desired and the exterior and interior should exhibit this style throughout.

The designs as developed need to be exactly as constructed. Strict design hold was placed on the documents as they were developed from the objective solutions.
