The client needed a new building for their Junior/Senior High School on campus. As part of the needs, the client needed spaces to provide full-service school facilities to rival all public schools nearby. This would include a full working theater, large format band/orchestra/choir practice suites, classrooms, administration, and a dedicated lobby.
A masterplan was developed to provide site locations for the new school and future buildings including a new 7000 seat worship center, new physical plant, multiple youth sports venues including a full football stadium.
The solution was to provide a facility that fit into the campus feel of the “Warehouse Church” that was a themed representation of the spaces and functions that the new facility was to serve.
The design exhibited a 4-story tilt-wall facility with the functions to serve the fully functional high school that spoke to a more ‘welcoming and opening’ feel that was also compliant with the local hurricane codes of the Florida costal region.
Provide a solution that would satisfy the scope of work desired, within the budget that was desired along with a functioning fit within the existing campus and church culture.
The impact of the new facilities on the existing campus changed the face of the church as it addresses the community. The facility has functioned as a community draw that not only serves the church, the school but the community at large.

Ray Thomas is a project architect at HH Architects starting in 2004. Before HH, Ray worked in his home community of Bryan/College Station for 10 years working on an eclectic mix of project types ranging from high-end restaurants to university projects, a few of which also included construction management. This “hands on” approach and wide-ranging diversity in projects set the basis for Ray’s real desire to use his skills and experience to participate in advancing God’s kingdom. While studying architecture at Texas A&M University Ray was exposed to the concepts of passive design and sustainable architecture which fueled a desire for smarter building design. Ray’s hobbies include music (especially in the form of percussion), woodworking & construction, and sports recreation. Ray has taken the role of servant in his community at Church, serving with Habitat for Humanity & Elder Aid organizations.
