Located within a campus complex in a burgeoning neighborhood, the Crossroads Christian Church Children’s Building is an integral part of an overall master plan that addresses multiple ministries of a landmark church. The Children’s Building is a complete departure from several other architectural statements made on campus with its own unique personality. The Children’s Pastor requested a facility that would excite children to attend. The exterior of the building initiates a “Theme Park” visual impact. The arrival and entrance provides a “Main Street” atmosphere, all properly scaled to a 3⁄4 proportion sensitive to a child’s small stature. The Children’s Pastor also wanted to have authentic theming.
The themed experience is continually reinforced as the visitor moves form the Main Street into a collection of classrooms, large format multi-purpose rooms, a gymnasium/auditorium and ultimately, a 400 seat main auditorium arranged with theater seating focusing on a city-scaped platform. Outdoor spaces also enhance the building with a landscaped fountain plaza that also serves as the baptistery.
